About Us At The Olde Bull Inn

About The Olde Bull Inn, Barton Mills

This privately-owned hotel boasts an AA rated rosette restaurant with fine wines, an informal public bar with real ales, and 14 refurbished bedrooms with a boutique twist.

Lovingly Restored by Cheryl and Wayne

The Olde Bull Inn was restored by the previous owners in 2000 after standing derelict for several years. Since the hotel was bought by Cheryl and Wayne in May 2007, it has been lovingly restored and refurbished with great respect shown to the original historic features of the building. Under the care of its new owners, this historic building is being given a new lease of life and its interior has all the charm of the olde with the comforts of new.

From the outside the hotel looks much the same today as it did when it was originally built, apart from the stagecoach entrance, which has now been glazed over to become the reception foyer, but the inside is a different story and it is being lovingly refurbished with a modern twist.

There are neutral colours, rich fabrics, honest homecooked food and a warm welcome. The Olde Bull Inn hotel is now a happy blend of old and new and offers a resplendent venue for drinks, meals, functions, quality accommodation and business needs.

We have won various awards and press recognition.

The History of The Olde Bull Inn

The Olde Bull Inn is a fascinating building, rich in history. The 16th century coaching inn of the Olde Bull was an important staging post on the route from Norwich to London.

The Olde Bull Inn is over 500 years old and simply oozes with character. In its rambling aspect, its quaint gables and dormer windows, its picturesque courtyard and stagecoach archway, it is reminiscent of the past.

Like the Maypole, most famous of the inns of Dickens, the building can boast its legend of Queen Elizabeth I - a legend which narrates how the Virgin monarch slept there one night in the days when her Earl of Leicester romance was in full flower.
